SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Associated Press) — There was no shortage of wild and wacky outfits on the Grammys red carpet on Sunday, and Lizzo’s bright orange Dolce & Gabbana opera coat with flowers and a huge hood was a particular highlight. Mixed shabby streetwear, T-shirts, and denim with risqué couture, flashy patterns, and lots of skin.
Lizzo shuffled along carefully because of her heavy coat’s long train. After a while, she took the coat off to show off a bustier, orange-hued sequined corset gown. The silk coat was fully embroidered with silk flowers stitched by hand, and the silk gown featured Swarovski crystal mesh accents. She paired her outfit with crystal-encrusted high heels and transparent fingerless gloves.
Holly Katz, the stylist and host of the Fashion Crimes podcast, remarked, “Lizzo is a floral garden fantasy in her ruffle orange 3D robe and matching corset dress underneath.” And we enjoy listening to her roar.Looking like she stepped out of the Midnights era, Taylor Swift wore a Roberto Cavalli long sparkly skirt and crop top with a high neck and long sleeves. Yes, they truly were a deep blue colour. She wore her hair up and accessorised with a pair of large diamond stud earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.
Harry Styles, ever the fashionista, walked the red carpet in a jumpsuit with a rainbow harlequin pattern and Swarovski crystals. In other words, he was shirtless. Cheers erupted at the sight of his low-cut, Egonlab-inspired ensemble. Paris’s Egonlab is a newer brand.
According to Esquire’s style director, Jonathan Evans, “the man seems to be having an enormous amount of fun with fashion,” and while that may not mean wearing harlequin overalls for most of us, the end result — the sheer joy of it — is something we should all aim for.
Cardi B., on the other hand, wore a sculptural electric blue gown with bombshell proportions, including a headpiece that covered one of her eyes.
She told photographers, “I’m trying, I’m trying,” as she walked slowly down the carpet.
Cardi wore a creation from designer Gaurav Gupta’s newest collection, “continuing to prove she intrinsically understands the delicate style dynamics of the Grammys carpet.” According to Bianca Betancourt, digital culture editor at Harper’s Bazaar, “it’s not about being silly, but rather making a statement.”
Cardi wore a silver metallic assemblage from the Paco Rabanne archival collection to present the award for best rap album. Rabanne, who was 88, passed away in France on Friday. In 2021, Julien Dossena designed both the top and skirt. Her eyes were concealed by a futuristic-looking hood that matched her outfit.
Anitta wore a 2003 black Versace dress that made headlines as well.
She tended towards a “gothic aesthetic,” as Betancourt put it. The red carpet elegance was done in her own unique way, but the flowing gown was sublimely tailored. It retained its eroticism, youthfulness, and refinement. Thanks to Donatella’s skill, it didn’t have a dated appearance.
Assault Rifle Kelly was wearing a silver double-breasted laminated foil suit with a Swarovski crystal harness, typical of her tendency to push the boundaries of style. It was made to order by Dolce & Gabbana. Megan Fox, who wore a beige Zuhair Murad dress, was also present. The corset bodice of her dress featured a beautiful embroidered heart applique.
Fire truck red was the colour chosen by Sam Smith. Kim Petras and the drag queens Violet Chachki and Gottmik in a matching colour scheme accompanied them. Smith hid his face in a top hat. They followed the evening’s trend and wore gloves that matched each other.
She remarked that it was a terrific opportunity to try out new, unconventional styles while still sticking to a coherent framework. It was reported that “Lizzo and Kacey Musgraves also opted for monochrome and textured looks from Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino.”
The red carpet for the marathon began with some striking ensembles. Doja Cat, who never settles for the status quo in terms of her style, arrived in a vinyl, one-shouldered, skintight black Atelier Versace gown with long matching gloves. Bebe Rexha radiated in a head-to-toe Barbie pink twirl tuxedo with a va-va-voom halter bodice, proving that the trend is still very much alive and well. A Jeremy Scott for Moschino look.

Musgraves, in Valentino, channelled Barbie with a pink feathered cape worn atop a matching catsuit.
Tattoos were epic, and there were golden crowns (Matt B) and glittery mouth bling (Alligator Jesus) (Alisha Gaddis). Many of the men appreciated the oversized cuts, and Benny Blanco’s embroidered denim shorts outfit was a hit.
In terms of men’s red carpet fashion, the fact that there were no huge, obvious, or massively popular trends this year was actually a boon. Evans remarked on how this allowed “the smaller trends a little bit more room to shine.”
What’s most interesting about him? The jacket with two front buttons.
Obviously this isn’t limited to the year 2023, but DB fads come and go, and it appears that 2023 could be a banner year for the silhouette. In various forms, it has been worn by such celebrities as LL Cool J, Jack Harlow, Saint JHN, and Scott Evans. He remarked on how great they all looked, adding that men from any background could easily copy their style.
Evans, too, had some opinions on all that blue jeans.
Miguel wore it head to toe. Additionally, Benny Blanco. The outfits appeared to have been designed with the word “divisive” in mind, but they had the air of a youth culture that celebrates controversy. Whether you dig them or you think they’re tacky, he says, “take note,” because those outfits could be an indicator of a shift towards denim in the near future.
But let’s get back to Doja Cat’s LPs.
Anyone else totally obsessed with Doja Cat’s 30,000 red Swarovski crystals she wore to Paris Fashion Week? Katz remarked, “Well, she doesn’t disappoint at the Grammys as she totally channelled the queen of darkness. Mia Farrow’s iconic ’60s cut, in particular, worked wonderfully with her outfit.
Even Betancourt appreciated Doja’s music.
The style was edgy, seductive, and futuristic, just like Doja. We must also draw attention to her excellent makeup application. “Ernesto Casillas did an exquisite job on the cat eye, pun intended, and paired it with a juicy metallic glossed lip that harkened back to the early 2000s without reviving the cheesy excess that so many looks from that era do,” she said.
